We explore Jungle by,

INTRODUCTION
A clear history of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands can be had only from a British Survey of these islands conducted in 1777. The Andaman & Nicobar Islands remained the abode of the Negritos and the Mongoloids respectively, who occupied the Islands for centuries. These islands remained secluded from the mainland till the end of the 18th Century when people from the outside world first arrived. Amongst the sub continental countries India has the largest land area. Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a union territory of India lies in the Bay of Bengal. It consists of about 527 islands both small and large. The coastline of the Islands stretches for about 100 Kms. The Islands are covered with dense forests all around. The area of the Islands is about 8,293 square kilometers. The Islands consist of 2 groups, the Andaman and Nicobar. These two groups are separated by about 300 Km the capital city is Port Blair. Of the total land area 92% of the land is covered with rain forests. Of the 527 islands, in only 38 islands we find the inhabitants. The rest of the land is barren. Andaman and Nicobar Islands lie close to the Arakanmayo mountain range of Burma which lies to the sides of Sumatra of Indonesia. Andaman is a developing land, with people being cultured and literate. The Nicobar Islands are still inhabited by primitive tribes and backward communities. The population of the whole land is about 5 lakhs. Men and women populate equally. 2.5 lakh people have the right to vote. We can find high mountains, lush green forests, wide roads, new buildings and long coastline where are some entering features of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands which make it beautiful.

Matho Nagrang is celebrated on the 15th day of the 1st month of Tibetan calendar, at Matho monastery, the only monastery of the Sakya School of Tibetan Buddhism. During these two days of festival mask dances are by monks of the monastery wearing colourful silk brocaded robes and mask in different forms of God and Goddesses. The festival is famous because of appearance of the two oracles during the festival after full month meditation in complete isolation. The two oracles appear in the courtyard accompanying mask dancers and predict future events and people from far and away come to seek advice to perform ritual to tackle with disasters.

A long narrow basin of inland drainage, hardly six to seven kilometer at its widest point and over 130km long, it is bisected by the international border between India and China . A few years back the government decided to open it to tourists though the lake and its surrounding is under army surveillance. After spending some time at Pangong we drive back to hotel for overnight stay.

The sessions will be conducted at Kamshet near Lonavala, by experienced and certified instructors.

Travel will be in a dedicated bus. We will meet at the Borivali gate of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park between 6.00 am. and continue South-ward on the Western Express Highway. The pick-up points will be -

The participant paraglide in tandem with his/her instructor. Depending upon the wind and thermals the actual flight could last between 10 - 30 mins. After all teams have landed we will proceed for Lunch. We would leave for Mumbai post lunch.

One cannot live 3 weeks without food, 3 days without water, 3 hours without shelter and 3 minutes without air. However, we have always (touch wood!) managed to get participants back home safe and sound. A large part of the credit goes to the participants who pack and do as mentioned under:

1. WATER: They always have at least 2 litres of water. They keep sipping water and replenishing their body reserves which are usually lost through perspiration and transpiration. This also keeps them happy and energetic.

2. SHOES: They check their shoes before the event for strength, grip and comfort. Old unused shoes usually don't last for more than 30 minutes in the outdoors. Similarly, brand new shoes almost always result in shoe bites. Closed shoes protect their feet from pricks and bites. This helps them focus on having a good time rather than just facing the elements. They also carry slippers/flip-flops/sandals to be worn during rest time and travel.

3.CLOTHES: They wear comfortable clothes which allow them to stretch, climb and jump. Clothing is most effective when it covers your arms and legs from the sun, cold, pricks and bites. They usually carry extra clothes and a towel depending on the number of days the event is. We have observed that extra plastic bags are of great help when it comes to storing wet clothes.

4. FOOD: They get Chocolates, Chikki, Dry Fruits, biscuits, farsan, vadapav, samosa, salami, chicken sausages, roast lamb, etc... These items keeps them charged and energetic during the day. The food makes us happy too.

5. SUN PROTECTION: They carry hats/caps, sunglasses and sunscreen and use them. This also reflects well in the numerous photographs that get clicked.

6. MEDICINES: They carry medicines that they commonly use to counter Asthama, allergies and other health issues that they may have.

7. ELECTRONICS: They carry cameras, torches, extra bulbs and batteries. They also make sure to have waterproof coverings to protect their belongings from moisture.

8. BACKPACK: They usually carry all their stuff on their backs keeping their hands free for things other than holding a bag.

9. TRASH BAG: They do not believe in littering and so they carry trash bags to carry all the wrappers, chewing gums, chips Packets, etc and dispose it off in the local Garbage Bin.

10. MOSQUITO REPELLENT: They just smiled when we asked them why. They did sleep very peacefully at night.

11. HUMOUR: Their sense of humour made it difficult for anything to dampen their spirits.

Arrive in Manali Hotel/farmhouse, in the morning. On arrival breakfast will be served & later followed by Lunch. In the evening Hidimba Devi temple, Manu Temple & marketing. Buy anything necessary for the trek like e.g Poncho (Rain Sheet) locally know as \"Barsati\", gloves, local woollen socks etc. Overnight at hotel/farmhouse in Manali.

22nd May: MANALI (2050M) to LAMADUGH - 4/5hrs.
Early in the morning we leave for Lamadugh with packed lunch. The first day of the trek leads through cool forests of giant Deodar (Cedar), Alder and Oak. The trail ascends gently at first, through the Manalsu valley along Manalsu stream. Extensive views of the Kullu valley appear and slowly fade into the distance as we reach the first campsite in the lush green meadows of Lamadugh. Beautiful views of the surrounding peaks dominate the scene. As one gains height in this steep climb the distinct views of different faces of Indrasan, Deo Tibba and peaks of Bara Shigri glacier open up. At the last part the path turns to the right and you have to traverse the ridge horizontally and enter into an alpine plateau studded with thick growth of alpine flowers. The campsite is ideally located. Approximately we should reach the campsite by late afternoon.
Overnight at camp in Lamadugh. (3380 meters).

23rd May: LAMADUGH to KHENPRI RUAR - 3/4hrs.
Early in the morning after breakfast we leave for our next camp with packed lunch. Now the trail ascends steeply through woodland and meadows with wild alpine flowers strewn all around. On the way brilliant shrubs of rhododendron and birch pave the way to the ridge after which you get to the camp site. Have our lunch and we go on a short exploration trip around our campsite. Overnight at camp in Khenpri Ruar (3658 meters).

24th May: KHENPRI RUAR - KHENPRI TIBBA- RANI SUI LAKE (4025M) back to KHENPRI RUAR- 5/6 hrs.
Today our trek takes us to the highest point & also to one of the highlights of the trek “Khenpri Tibba” (4025 meters) surrounded by good views of Indrasan (6221m), Deo Tibba (6001m), Hanuman Tibba (5928m). Then we descend to Rani Sue Lake. This is one of the sacred lakes & this is the place from where one can have a 360 degree view of the Himalayan ranges. After which we trek back to camp. Overnight at camp in Khenpri Ruar. (3658 meters).

25th May: KHENPRI RUAR via LAMADUGH to MANALI -3/4hrs.
After breakfast we leave for Manali. This will be the last day of the trek and we will be descending from Lamadugh towards Manali. Lunch at hotel/farmhouse on arrival. Overnight at
hotel/ farmhouse in Manali.

26th May: Manali – Solang - Manali
In early morning drive to Solang, where you can enjoy Paragliding, Zorbing Horse riding etc (At own cost & risk). Lunch at hotel in Solang & then drive back to Manali with a stopover at the local market, here you can do a bit of shopping.

27th May: Manali-Delhi.
After breakfast in Manali Hotel/farmhouse departure for Rafting on the way to Kullu; in Beas river. Have hot lunch at rafting site followed by tea & snacks. Then departure for Delhi. Overnight bus journey. (On the way dinner)

The Great Rann of Kutch also called Greater Rann of Kutch or just Rann of is a seasonal salt marshlocated in the Thar Desert in the Kutch District of Gujarat, India

The Great Rann of Kutch, along with the Little Rann of Kutch and the Banni grasslands on its southern edge, is situated in the district of Kutch and comprises some 30,000 square kilometers between the Gulf of Kutch and the mouth of the Indus River in southern Pakistan. The marsh can be accessed from the village of Kharaghoda in Surendranagar District.
The Great Rann of Kutch is one of the hottest areas of India.
The plant life of the marsh consists of grasses such as Apluda and Cenchrus species along with dry thorny shrubs.

There are 13 species of lark in the Rann of Kutch.
The marshes are also a resting site for migratory birds, and are home to over 200 species of bird including the threatened Lesser Florican and Houbara Bustard.

Location :
Kodagu or Coorg is nature’s treasure trove where misty hills and forests mingle with coffee and spice plantations. The forests are covered with shola vegetation with many evergreen patches and there are various species of butterflies and birds. Situated on the eastern slope of the Western Ghats. It is a hilly district; the lowest elevation is 900m above sea level. The highest peak, Tadiandamol, has an altitude of 1,750 mts; second being Pushpagiri at 1,715 mts and third is Kotebetta at 1620 mts. The principal river is the Kaveri River (Cauvery), which rises at Talakaveri on the eastern side of the Western Ghats, and with its tributaries, drains the greater part of Kodagu.

This is a classic hill and jungle trek passing through different terrains and with the unique experience of camping by riverside and waterfalls.
Distance from Bangalore – 250kms

Trek Summery

Kotebetta is the third highest peak in Coorg and the trek passes through villages, coffee and spice plantations initially. Later we will enter thicker forests and some rocky surface. Once we reach the peak we see the amazing views of the shoal forests and Western Ghats.

We would have lunch on the top of the hill and interested people can also visit the small shiva temple atop the hill. An hour of ridge walk on top of the mountains after lunch will give ample opportunity for some lovely shots of the hills and forests. We reach our camping spot next to a stream by evening and we pitch tents and later dinner by campfire. Cook dinner and chat and welcome the new year.

Anandwan Anandwan, literally, Forest of Joy, located near Warora in Chandrapur district in the state of Maharashtra, India, is an ashram, and a community rehabilitation centre for leprosy patients and the disabled from downtrodden sections of society. It was founded in 1948 by noted social activist, Baba Amte. Baba Amte developed Anandwan to be a self-contained ashram. Residents are self-sufficient in terms of basic subsistence through agriculture. Baba Amte also shaped Anandwan as an environmentally aware community to have practices in place for energy utilization, waste recycling and minimizing usage of natural resources that might otherwise lead to their depletion Anandwan today spreads over 200 hectares and has two hospitals, a university, an orphanage, a school for the blind and a technical wing. More than 5,000 people are dependent on it for their livelihood. Hemalkasa The Lok Biradari Prakalp is located near Hemalkasa a village in Bhamragad taluka Lok Biradari Prakalp (LBP) is a social project of the Maharogi Sewa Samiti, Warora involving a hospital, a school and an animal orphanage. It was started on 23 December 1973, by the social worker Baba Amte in 1973 for integrated development of Madia Gond. It is situated at Hemalkasa. There were hardly any roads worth mentioning. The area would remain cut off from civilization during the monsoons and their aftermath for about 6 months. Although the conditions were daunting, Baba's younger son Dr. Prakash, a surgeon and his wife Mandakini, an anesthetist volunteered to work among the Madias. Over 1973-74, by learning the tribal language and by their compassionate behavior the doctor couple gained the confidence of the tribals and established a reputation for serving them. The Indian government has also awarded them the Padmashree, the highest national civilian award. The first of its kind in India, the 'Amte's Animal Ark' has a fascinating beginning. When the tribals saw Prakash's love for animals, they began bringing to him all orphaned, diseased and hurt animals as gifts, by way of gratitude towards their beloved doctor. The members of the LBP had no expertise on rearing animals but their affection for the animals enabled them to transcend their lack of training. Today the list of animals at the LBP 'Animal Orphanage' is inexhaustible- leopards, lions, barking deer, mouse deer, chameleons, Nilgai (blue Indian bull), otters, wild boars, hyenas, vipers, cobras, kraits, owls, eagles, civet cats, crocodiles and monkeys. Somnath Somnath is spread across 1300 acres, located in the lust green forests of Tadoba. Situated 54 kilometers north-east of Chandrapur, it is about 100 km south of Anandwan. The heavenly place Somnath is the granary of MSS. The Somnath Project began as a leprosy rehabilitation center in 1967. Baba's vision was that cured leprosy patients would till the land and produce grain for the entire Maharogi Sewa Samiti family. The land was a degraded forest that had to be manually, inch by inch to make it suitable for agriculture. Every 6 months, youth from these villages are provided training at Somnath on watershed development and various non-farm activities. They then begin to act as pressure points for government representatives to start programs in their own villages.

Once the private hunting grounds of the rulers of the princely state of Rewa, Bandhavgarh was declared a National Park in 1968 and a Tiger Reserve in 1993 under the Project Tiger initiative.

Nestled within the Vindhya Mountain Range of Central India, the park derives its name from the highest hillock in the area, Bandhavgarh Hill (807 metres), atop which the ancient fort of the same name is located.

The park has a total area of 437 sq. kms. comprising a core area of 105 sq. kms (called the Tala Range) and a buffer zone of 332 sq. kms. Currently only two zones within the national park – the Tala Range and the Magdhi Range – are open to tourists.

Nagzira is located in Gondia District – Vidharbha region and was declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1971. Nagzira has spread over into an area of 152.81-sqkm, this includes a small lake within its boundary and is main source of water to wildlife throughout the year.

Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary is adorned with a picturesque landscape, luxuriant vegetation and serves as a living outdoor museum to explore and appreciate nature. The sanctuary has 34 species of mammals, 166 species of birds, 36 species of reptiles and four species of amphibians. The invertebrate fauna includes, besides a number of insects and ant species, several species of butterflies. Wild animals to spot are the tiger, panther, bison, sambar, nilgai, chital, wild boar, sloth bear and wild dog.

Navegaon National Park is a paradise for bird lovers as it is well known bird sanctuary located in Gondia District – Vidharbha region.

Navegaon National Park is spread over into an area of 135 sq kms. A picturesque lake, stretching over an area of 11 sq. kms This National Park is also attracted for its dense forest and bamboo around the water.

Though Navegaon National Park is famous for bird watching we can see number of wild animals tiger, panther, bison, sambar, nilgai, chital, wild boar, sloth bear and wild dog.

Strategically located watch towers enable visitors to catch glimpse of the region's varied wildlife. It consists of a deer park, an aviary and three beautifully landscaped gardens.

venturous trek in Ladakh. The temperature remains 0 to -10 degrees during the day time and – 15 to –20 degrees in the nights.

Most of the trekking is done on the ice (Chadar) but at some places there are icy rocks or trails.

Most of the nights are spent sleeping in the caves and in Nyrakpulu, in the house of the locals. The porters and the kitchen team will be the locals, who are dedicated and used to work in any weather conditions. There will be 2 to 3 porters with every trekker and food served will be mostly Indian and Ladakhi.

About Bandhavgarh National Park
Bandhavgarh National Park is one of the wild life sanctuaries in the Indian state Madhya Pradesh. The national park is situated at 197 km away north-east of Jabalpur. This wild life park derived its very name from an ancient fort in the area. Bandhawgarh National Park belongs to the Vindhyan mountain ranges of central India and it boasts to have the highest density of tiger population in the country. Now there are about 46 to 52 tigers one can spot here. Bandhavgarh national park consisting of mixed vegetations ranging from tall grasslands to thick sal forest is the home to vide variety of animals and birds. Due to varied topography Bandhavgarh national park provides ample opportunity to spot the majestic Indian tiger and some rarely seen animals like leopard and sloth bear, rhesus macaques, black faced langurs, jungle cats, hyenas, porcupines, jackals, foxes, wild dogs, chausinghas and ratels, among others. CHADAR - THE FROZEN ZANSKAR RIVER TREK (2'nd FEB-13'th Feb, 2012)

Ladakh lies in the eastern half of the state of Jammu & Kashmir in the far north of India. It shares its much disputed north western border with Pakistan, while to the north lies the Chinese province of Sinkiang, and to the east, Chinese occupied Tibet. It covers an area of approximately 60,000 sq. kms, ranging from 2600 metres to 7670 metres in elevation, Ladakh is sandwiched between two mountain systems – the Karakoram to the north and the Himalayas in the south. Ladakh can basically be divided into five geographical regions – Central Ladakh (the heartland of the Indus valley), Nubra (lying to the north of the Ladakh range), Rupshu (a dry, high altitude plateau lying in the south-east of Ladakh, Zanskar (one of the highest inhabited regions in the world) and western Ladakh or Lower Ladakh (around Kargil).

Zanskar – a remote valley in Ladakh is the fabled “Land of White Copper” - a land of glaciers and extreme cold, snow leopards and the ibex, black wolves and the rare Himalayan blue poppy, and of spirits and monks. At an average altitude of over 13,000 ft, the strange aspect of this valley is that it has no entrance. The two rivers that flow in it meet to carve a gorge so long and deep that one cannot travel down it to enter or exit the region. The only way out is crossing the Zanskar range of mountains, through high passes that are closed eight months in a year. This gorge of the Zanskar therefore, remains un-trekkable during the summer when the snow melt sends the river raging, but forms a corridor of ice in winter which serves as the only way, albeit dangerous, out of the Zanskar valley.

Day 01 Delhi/LehMet on arrival in Leh and transferred to hotel. Day free to acclimatise. Overnight guest house on full board.

Day 02 LehAcclimatise and half day sightseeing of monasteries. Overnight guest house on full board.

Day 03 Leh/Nimu/Chilling/Start trek to Bakula (3-4 hours trek)Transferred by jeep on a tarmac road till Chilling. Then drive on jeep track for a few kilometers at Guru Do before starting the trek. Overnight camp by the river.

Day 04 Bakula/Dibyongma (5-6 hours trek)Trek on the frozen river. Overnight camp at Teeb cave.

Day 05 Dibyongma/Nyeraq (6-7 hours trek)Walk on frozen river. Overnight camp at Neeraq.

Day 06 Nyeraq to Lingshed (8 hours trek)Some distance from Nyeraq we leave the frozen river and trek along the Lingshed Nala to the beautiful village of Lingshed. Overnight Zanskari house.

Day 07 Rest day at LingshedVisit the famous Linghsed monastery on top of the village, read, write or just bask in the sun. Overnight at Zanskari home.

Day 08-11 Trek Lingshed to Chilling and drive to LehReturn trek to Chilling in four easy days. Board the waiting vehicles at the road head a little upstream of Chilling to be driven to the Guest house in Leh. Overnight Guest House.

Day 12 / Feb 16 Fly Leh-DelhiEarly morning transfer to the Leh airport to board the flight back to Delhi.

We, at Green Carpet have organized many thrilling events in the course of the past year. These events involved a variety of adventure activities like Trekking, Rock climbing, Rappelling and Valley-crossing with some leisured ones like Tour de Konkan and crocodile trail.
